Kingston & Area Branch Gathering – 8 May 2026

Friday, 8 May 2026 marked the third gathering of the Kingston and Area Branch of the Canadian Airborne Forces Association (CAFA).

Once again, members came together at Royal Canadian Legion Branch #560 in Kingston.

The event was well attended, with several enthusiastic new members joining us. The branch continues to grow as word spreads throughout the airborne community!

During the gathering, members paused to remember the 58th anniversary of the tragic accident on 8 May 1968, when seven paratroopers from 2 Airborne Signals Troop and 1 RCR drowned in the Ottawa River.

CAFA National President Bruce Ewing was in attendance and provided updates on upcoming events, including:

• The Airborne Forces Weekend at CFB Trenton on 22–23 May 2026

• The now-confirmed 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Battlefield Study Tour in Europe – May 2027

• CAFA’s Airborne Capability paper

Rencontre de la Branche de Kingston et des Environs de l’Association des Forces Aéroportées du Canada – Le 8 mai 2026

Le vendredi 8 mai 2026 a marqué la troisième rencontre des paras de la branche de Kingston et des environs de l’Association des Forces Aéroportées du Canada (AFAC).

Nous nous sommes une fois de plus réunis à la Branche #560 de la Légion royale canadienne à Kingston. La rencontre a attiré beaucoup de monde, y compris plusieurs nouveaux membres très enthousiastes. Notre branche continue de grandir grâce au bouche-à-oreille !

Nous en avons profité pour commémorer le 58e anniversaire de la tragédie survenue le 8 mai 1968, lorsque sept parachutistes de la Troupe aéroportée du 2e Escadron des transmissions et du 1RCR se sont noyés dans la rivière des Outaouais.

Le président national de l’AFAC, Bruce Ewing, était présent et a donné des mises à jour sur les activités à venir, notamment :

• Le Week-end des Forces Aéroportées à la BFC Trenton les 22 et 23 mai 2026

• Le voyage d’étude des champs de bataille du 1er Bataillon de parachutistes canadiens en Europe (maintenant confirmé) – mai 2027

• Le document de l’AFAC sur la capacité aéroportée
