Canadian Airborne Regiment Research

As part of a Canadian War Museum initiative, “In Their Own Voices,” aimed at creating accounts of veteran experience after war or military service, Dr. Howard Coombs (3 Commando 1989-1991) is researching the ongoing efforts made by Canadian Airborne Regiment members to preserve the “Airborne brotherhood” after the 1995 disbandment. Key research questions aim to outline the idea of the “Airborne Brotherhood” and how that spirit has been preserved.

We currently have 25 interviews and are seeking more to publish the collection as a single volume. If you or someone you know might be interested in participating in an interview, please contact either of the two researchers from Queen’s University (Kingston) who are working with Dr. Coombs. Interviews will be conducted until 30 April. Here is their contact information:

Dr. Cheryl DesRoches (English interviews): C.desroches@queensu.ca

• Dr. Emilie El Khoury (French Interviews): emilie.elkhoury@queensu.ca

Participants will need to sign a permission form to allow Dr. Coombs to use their interview for the research project. Interviews can be anonymized if preferable.

If you are not interested in participating in an interview but wish to contribute to the project, feel free to send an email with your thoughts on the two areas of research to either Dr. Cheryl DesRoches (English) or Dr. Emilie El Khoury (French). Clearly indicate in your email whether you would like your name cited or not.
