Situation: June 6th, 2021 will mark the 77th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. This was the first combat jump for the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and a historic day for Airborne Forces.

Mission: Virtually bring members of the Airborne Community together on the evening of Saturday June 5th, 2021 (1900) in order to recognize the 77th Anniversary of D-Day and maintain the airborne spirit.

Execution:

Phase 1 - Attendees RSVP by emailing CAFAtoronto@gmail.com NLT 30 May 2021

Phase 2 - Receive invitation via email, this will include joining instructions for the Zoom presentation that will be sent on June 3rd.

Phase 3 - Join the virtual evening and recognize the 77th Anniversary of D-Day with guest speaker Col (Ret’d) Bernd Horn and members of the Airborne family from across the country and allied forces.

  • 1730 - 1815: Zoom event open for login
  • 1815 – 1900: Virtual Reception
  • 1900 – 1930: Event Begins
  • 1930 - 2000: Guest Speaker: Col (Ret’d) Bernd Horn - Canadian Airborne Experience

Guest Speaker: Colonel (Retired) Bernd Horn, OMM, MSM, CD, PhD is a former infantry officer who has held key command and staff appointments in the Canadian Armed Forces, including Deputy Commander of Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM), Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment and Officer Commanding 3 Commando, the Canadian Airborne Regiment. He is currently the CANSOFCOM Command Historian, an appointment he fills as a civilian. Dr. Horn is also an adjunct professor of history at the Royal Military College of Canada and a senior fellow at the Joint Special Operations University in Tampa. He has authored, co-authored, edited or co-edited over 40 books and innumerable monographs / chapters / articles on military history, Special Operations Forces, leadership and military affairs.
